This Policy Analysis will start by delving into how the BRICS have emerged to build up a soft power other powers must acknowledge, and how this is acutely relevant for the six Western Balkan countries so far in varying ways, with a deeper dive into the case of the Republic of Kosovo. Then, the paper will analyze each founding BRICS countries’ track record and ambitions on the Western Balkans, to assess what we can expect from the group with regards to the region and Kosovo’s international recognition goals. Finally, after the review on such antagonistic impact by disparate global powers on the Western Balkans, this Policy Analysis will conclude with an overall assessment on trends to watch out for and keep tracking between the Western Balkans and the BRICS countries. Albeit a very heterogeneous group, one should not run the risk of dismissing its soft power on such a vulnerable region until it is too late.
